Every layer sits on your actual video, so you can check it against what really happened. Swing path ### Trace the club through the swing. Clubhead tracking draws the path from takeaway through the finish, colored by phase, so an over-the-top move or a changed backswing is visible, not guessed. Blur, a hidden club, or low light can break the trace. Compare it with the raw video. Body & head ### Watch posture and head movement. On-device body tracking adds a skeleton, a spine-angle label, and a Head Stability score from address to impact, so you can check sway and dip on video. Angles are measured in the 2D camera image, not 3D. [How the numbers work](https://swingdraw.app/posts/ai-golf-swing-analyzer-no-subscription). Your marks ### Draw the line your coach would. Lines, circles, arrows, freehand, and angle tools. Place a shaft-plane line at address, then step frame by frame and see where the club goes. Move and fine-tune any mark with edit handles. Undo and Clear are one tap away. Compare ## Last month’s swing. *Next to today’s.* Open two saved swings side by side, play them together from address, and step both a frame at a time. It is the fastest way to see whether a lesson change actually showed up. - Shared timeline aligned at detected address - Overlays and drawings in both panels - Pan and zoom to setup, the top, or impact - Works on iPhone; roomier on iPad [How to make a fair comparison](https://swingdraw.app/posts/golf-swing-comparison-app-iphone) Remember ## Keep the reason *with the rep.* A camera roll full of swings is not a practice record. [Read every question](https://swingdraw.app/faq), or email the developer from the [support page](https://swingdraw.app/support/). How much does SwingDraw cost? $14.99 once on the U.S. App Store. There is no subscription, no in-app purchase, and no ads, so every tool is included from the first launch. Apple shows your local price before you buy, and Family Sharing is supported. Does SwingDraw tell me what is wrong with my swing? No. SwingDraw shows you the swing clearly: overlays, lines, angles, and side-by-side comparison. It does not grade your swing or prescribe fixes. If you want automatic fault detection, an AI coaching app or a qualified instructor is the better fit. Can I use videos I already recorded? Yes. Import one clip or several at once from Photos, or record in the app with a range session that detects and trims swings for you. Does it measure club speed or ball flight? No. SwingDraw works from the video only. It cannot measure ball speed, spin, carry, or club speed. Use a launch monitor for those numbers. Are my swing videos uploaded? No. Your library stays on your iPhone or iPad unless you export or share a clip yourself. There is no account, and the App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected”. Does it work on iPad? Yes. SwingDraw is a universal app for iPhone and iPad running iOS or iPadOS 17.6 or later. The larger iPad screen is useful for side-by-side comparison. SwingDraw for iPhone & iPad ## Your next range session, *on the record.* Record or import a swing, mark the frame that matters, and compare it with last week. How the app and these guides are made. About # One developer. *One focused app.* SwingDraw is an independently developed iPhone and iPad app for reviewing golf swing video, marking visible checkpoints, comparing clips, and keeping the context behind each practice session. ## Who makes SwingDraw I’m David Balderston. I design, build, and support SwingDraw myself. The app is intentionally focused: useful video review tools, a one-time purchase, no ads, no account, and no recurring subscription. Support email goes straight to me. ## What SwingDraw is for SwingDraw helps golfers, coaches, and parents see a swing clearly. It does not try to be a coach. Overlays and measurements are visual aids for a person to interpret; they are not a diagnosis, and they do not replace a qualified instructor. ## How these guides are made Guides are based on the workflows in the current app: recording or importing, stepping frame by frame, drawing a checkpoint, adding context, comparing, and exporting. Screenshots are real captures from the app. Comparison pages disclose that I make SwingDraw. Competitor details are dated and linked to first-party sources, and each comparison says when another app is the better fit. Prices and features change, so check before buying. ## Current product facts Version 3.1.8 is available for iPhone and iPad. SwingDraw costs $14.99 as a one-time purchase in the U.S. App Store; local pricing can vary. There are no subscriptions, ads, or in-app purchases. Golf swing video apps that replace them: SwingDraw, OnForm, CoachNow, V1 Golf, and the new Coach’s Eye by Gym Art. Alternatives · Updated September 25, 2026 # Coach’s Eye is gone. Here is what golfers use now. By [David Balderston](https://swingdraw.app/about), developer of SwingDraw. Coach’s Eye and Hudl Technique were the simple slow-motion-and-draw apps a lot of golfers and coaches relied on. Both are discontinued. These are the current iPhone and iPad options, and who each suits. **SwingDraw for iPhone and iPad**$14.99 once on the U.S. App Store. No subscription, in-app purchases, or ads. The app was discontinued that summer, support ended in October 2021, and paid users were offered migration to OnForm. - **A new “Coach’s Eye”** by Gym Art Inc. launched on the App Store on March 26, 2026. It is a separate, general-purpose annotation app, not the TechSmith product. ## What a replacement needs to do Most people used Coach’s Eye for four things: slow motion and frame stepping, drawing lines and angles on the video, side-by-side comparison, and sending the result to someone. Any replacement should do those without making you pay monthly for the basics. ## The options for golf Coach’s Eye alternatives · U.S. prices checked September 25, 2026 | App | Price | Best for | Trade-off | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | **SwingDraw** | $14.99 once; no IAP | Golfers and coaches who want Coach’s Eye-style drawing and comparison, plus golf swing path, body, and head tracking | Golf only; no voice-over lessons, sharing inbox, or cloud | | Coach’s Eye (Gym Art) | Free for 7 videos; Pro subscription (App Store lists $6.99–$99.99 items) | Any sport; frame stepping, lines, freehand, protractor | General-purpose; no golf swing tracking | | OnForm | Free basic tier; Individual Standard $9.99/mo or $99.99/yr; coach plans from $19.99/mo | Former Hudl Technique users; remote coaching and voice-overs | Subscription for full features | | CoachNow | Analyze $9.99/mo or $59/yr; PRO $49.99/mo or $499/yr | Coaches running athlete spaces across sports | No free tier; 7-day trial | | V1 Golf | Free tier; Golf+ $9.99/mo or $79.99/yr | Free recording and frame stepping; drawing and comparison require paid Golf+. Advanced V1sion adds skeletal and ball tracking. | Drawing, comparison, and overlay need Golf+; skeletal and ball tracking need Advanced V1sion | ## Why SwingDraw feels familiar Lines, a circle, and angle measurements drawn on a swing in SwingDraw. The core loop is the same one Coach’s Eye users know: open a clip, scrub to the frame, draw a line or angle, compare with another clip, and export. SwingDraw adds golf-specific help on top: a clubhead path trace, body tracking with spine angle and Head Stability, a tempo ratio, and a library you can filter by club. It is a one-time purchase, so it cannot be discontinued out from under a subscription you are paying for, and your videos stay on your device rather than on a server that might shut down. ## When another app is the better replacement - You used Coach’s Eye for **several sports**: Gym Art’s Coach’s Eye, OnForm, or CoachNow. - You relied on **recorded voice-over lessons** or sending video through the app: OnForm or CoachNow. - You came from **Hudl Technique** and want a migration path with a coach: OnForm. ## Questions Is Coach’s Eye still available? The original Coach’s Eye by TechSmith was retired: TechSmith stopped selling it in September 2021 and ended support about a year later. A different app called “Coach’s Eye” by Gym Art Inc. appeared on the App Store in March 2026; it is not the TechSmith product. What happened to Hudl Technique? OnForm acquired Hudl Technique in May 2021. The Technique app was discontinued that summer, support ended in October 2021, and paid users were offered a migration to OnForm. What is the closest replacement for golf? For the core Coach’s Eye workflow of slow motion, drawing on video, and side-by-side comparison, SwingDraw covers it for $14.99 once and adds golf-specific swing path, body, and head tracking. If you relied on voice-over lessons or sharing through the app, OnForm or CoachNow are closer. Can I import my old Coach’s Eye videos? If the videos are in your Photos library, yes: SwingDraw imports from Photos, including several at once. Annotations made in Coach’s Eye cannot be imported. ### Sources (checked September 25, 2026) - [OnForm: OnForm acquires Hudl Technique](https://onform.com/blog/onform-acquires-hudl-technique/) - [Jason N. Head Stability is a 0–100 score from accumulated head movement between detected address and impact, scaled to torso size. Spine angle is the hip-to-shoulder midpoint line measured from vertical. Tempo is the ratio of backswing time (address to top) to downswing time (top to impact). All of these depend on camera position, frame rate, and detection quality. ## Sources Price, version, release dates, size, category, rating, and privacy label come from the [U.S. App Store listing](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swingdraw-golf-swing-analyzer/id6746954769) and Apple’s public lookup API, checked September 25, 2026. FAQ # Questions, *answered plainly.* What SwingDraw does, what it does not do, and how to get the most from your swing video. ## Buying How much does SwingDraw cost? $14.99 once on the U.S. App Store, with every feature included. There is no subscription, in-app purchase, or ad. Local prices vary by storefront. Is there a free version or trial? No. SwingDraw is a paid app with no free tier. The features, facts, and guide pages show exactly what it does before you buy. Does Family Sharing work? Yes, for up to six family members when Family Sharing is enabled. Which devices are supported? iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17.6 or later. There is no Android, Mac-only, or web version. ## Recording & importing Can I import swings I already filmed? Yes. Import a single video or bulk-import several from Photos. Videos filmed at a lesson, on the range, or by a friend all work. Can I record in the app? Yes. Range sessions record your practice, detect the swings, and let you trim and keep the ones worth studying. What is the best camera angle? Down-the-line (behind the hands, pointing at the target) or face-on (facing the golfer’s chest), with the phone on a tripod near hand height. See the [recording guide](https://swingdraw.app/posts/how-to-record-golf-swing-video-iphone). Should I record in slow motion? If you can, yes. iPhone slow-motion video (120 or 240 fps) gives you more frames around impact when you step through the swing. ## Analysis What does the swing path overlay show? A trace of the clubhead through the swing, colored by phase, drawn on the camera image. Gaps can appear when the club is blurred or hidden. What is the Head Stability score? A 0–100 summary of how far the tracked head point travels from address to impact, scaled to torso size. Higher means less movement. It is a visual aid, not a grade. [How it is calculated](https://swingdraw.app/posts/ai-golf-swing-analyzer-no-subscription). Are angle measurements accurate? Angles are measured in the 2D video image. They are consistent for comparing your own swings from the same camera position, but they are not calibrated 3D measurements. Does SwingDraw diagnose my swing or suggest drills? No. It shows the swing clearly and leaves interpretation to you or your coach. Apps like GolfFix, 18Birdies, and Sportsbox focus on automatic feedback. Does it measure club speed, ball speed, or carry? No. Use a launch monitor for ball-flight and club data. Can I compare my swing to a tour pro? You can import any video you have the right to use and compare it side by side with yours. SwingDraw does not include a library of pro swings. ## Privacy & sharing Are my videos uploaded? No. The swing library stays on your device unless you export or share a clip. There is no account, and the App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected”. How do I send a swing to my coach? Use Save Photo for a marked frame or Save Video for the clip with drawings and overlays, then share it from Photos or the share sheet. See [the coach guide](https://swingdraw.app/posts/send-golf-swing-video-to-coach). Does my library sync between iPhone and iPad? No. Each device keeps its own library. Export the clips you want to move. Is it safe for junior golfers? SwingDraw has no ads, no account, no chat, and no data collection. It is rated 4+ on the App Store. Compare the backswing and downswing paths on one frame, or put two traces side by side. The trace follows what the camera can see. Motion blur, a hidden clubhead, or poor light can leave gaps. [Check a clubhead trace](https://swingdraw.app/posts/golf-swing-path-analyzer-iphone) Body & head tracking ## See posture, spine angle, and head movement. On-device body tracking overlays a skeleton on the golfer. Labels show the spine angle against vertical and a Head Stability score that summarizes how far the head travels from address to impact. Measurements are 2D, in the camera image. A score is a visual aid, not a grade. [How the numbers are calculated](https://swingdraw.app/posts/ai-golf-swing-analyzer-no-subscription) Drawing & angles ## Draw the reference your coach would. Add lines, circles, arrows, freehand marks, and alignment guides on any frame. Measure body, shaft, and position angles. Drag a mark after placing it and fine-tune it with edit handles. Manual marks stay where you put them; they do not follow the golfer. [Drawing walkthrough](https://swingdraw.app/posts/draw-lines-on-golf-swing-video-iphone) Slow motion & frame stepping ## Stop exactly at the top, transition, or impact. Scrub the timeline, slow playback down, or step one frame at a time. Pan, zoom, and rotate the view to focus on the hands, the clubface, or the feet. Frame-by-frame detail depends on the frame rate you recorded. 240 fps slow-motion capture shows more around impact. [Slow-motion guide](https://swingdraw.app/posts/slow-motion-golf-swing-analyzer-iphone) Compare ## Two swings. One timeline. Open two saved swings side by side with shared playback that starts at detected address. Step both clips together to compare setup, the top, and impact from before and after a lesson. Different tempos reach impact at different times. Check the phase, not only the timestamp. [Make a fair comparison](https://swingdraw.app/posts/golf-swing-comparison-app-iphone) Library ## A practice record, not a camera roll. Every saved swing gets a thumbnail, date, and your annotations. Star favorites, add custom tags, filter by club, and bulk-import older videos to organize them in one place. The library lives on this device. Back up your iPhone or iPad, and export clips you want to keep elsewhere. [Build a practice journal](https://swingdraw.app/posts/golf-swing-practice-journal-iphone) Tempo & notes ## Keep the feel with the video. Record a voice note on the swing while the feel is fresh. When address, top, and impact are detected, SwingDraw shows a backswing-to-downswing tempo ratio such as 2.3:1. Tempo depends on phase detection and frame rate; treat it as a comparison between your own swings. [About swing tempo](https://swingdraw.app/golf-swing-tempo-app) Record & export ## From range session to coach’s inbox. Record a range session in the app, let SwingDraw detect the swings, trim the action, and keep the ones that matter. Save a marked frame with Save Photo or the annotated clip with Save Video, then share it anywhere. Exports go to Photos or the iOS share sheet. SwingDraw has no built-in messaging or cloud. [Send a swing to your coach](https://swingdraw.app/posts/send-golf-swing-video-to-coach) iPad ## Same app. *Bigger canvas.* SwingDraw is universal: buy once and use it on iPhone and iPad. Getting started # Your first review, *in six steps.* SwingDraw helps you inspect your own golf video with frame stepping, drawing, overlays, and clip comparison. Here is the workflow that makes the first session useful. ## 1. Record or import one swing Set your phone on a tripod near hand height, down-the-line or face-on, with the whole golfer and club in frame. Record a range session in SwingDraw, or import a clip from Photos. [Camera setup guide](https://swingdraw.app/posts/how-to-record-golf-swing-video-iphone) ## 2. Ask one question Pick one thing to check, like head movement, the club at the top, or posture at impact. One question keeps the review useful. [The review workflow](https://swingdraw.app/posts/how-to-analyze-golf-swing-video-iphone) ## 3. Find the frame Pause, then use the frame arrows to reach the checkpoint. Pinch to zoom on the hands or clubhead. [Slow motion and frame stepping](https://swingdraw.app/posts/slow-motion-golf-swing-analyzer-iphone) ## 4. Add one reference Select Line and drag a shaft-plane or posture reference at address. Or turn on swing path or body tracking and check the overlay against the real video. [Drawing tools](https://swingdraw.app/posts/draw-lines-on-golf-swing-video-iphone) ## 5. Compare with an earlier swing Press and hold a saved swing in Library and choose Compare. Pick a clip filmed from the same angle, then step both through the same phase. [Comparison controls](https://swingdraw.app/posts/golf-swing-comparison-app-iphone) ## 6. Save the context Tag the club, star the good ones, and record a voice note with the feel. Save Photo or Save Video when you want to share it. [Sharing with a coach](https://swingdraw.app/posts/send-golf-swing-video-to-coach) **Before you rely on the result:** body and club-path overlays can be imperfect. Compare them with the original video before drawing conclusions. SwingDraw does not measure ball flight or replace a qualified instructor. Two swings compared with body and angle overlays. Similar camera placement makes comparisons more useful. **$14.99** $14.99 one-time purchase in the U.S. App Store; no subscription, in-app purchases, or ads. Other storefront prices may differ. For golf coaches # Show students *what you see.* SwingDraw is a lesson-tee video tool: film or import a swing, draw the line you are talking about, put it next to last week’s swing, and send the marked frame home with the student. **$14.99**One time on the U.S. App Store. No subscription, in-app purchases, ads, or account.[Download on theApp Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swingdraw-golf-swing-analyzer/id6746954769?pt=126867818&ct=website_product&mt=8) ## A lesson-tee workflow in four taps 1. **Film the swing.** Record a range session in SwingDraw or import from Photos. Range sessions detect the swings and let you trim and keep the useful ones. 2. **Mark it.** Draw a shaft-plane line at address, circle the head, or measure an angle. Turn on swing path or body tracking when it supports your point. 3. **Compare.** Open the swing next to the student’s earlier one and step both through the same phase. 4. **Send it.** Save Photo or Save Video, then share it through the student’s usual app with one sentence about the feel to practice. Side-by-side comparison on iPad, with body tracking and a swing path trace in each panel. ## Send a useful filming checklist Help students record a consistent camera view before the lesson. [Print the six-step filming and review checklist](https://swingdraw.app/coach-filming-checklist/), or share its link with the student. ## Why coaches pick a simple tool - **No per-student cost.** $14.99 once, whether you teach three students or three hundred. - **No student sign-up.** Nobody needs an account to receive a marked clip. - **Private by default.** Videos stay on your device. The App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected”, which matters when you film juniors. - **Fast.** Drawing tools are on screen next to the video, with Move, Undo, and Clear one tap away. ## Where SwingDraw is not enough SwingDraw is not a coaching business platform. There is no remote-lesson inbox, voice-over lesson recording, shared student library, cloud backup, or billing. If you teach remotely or run an academy, a subscription platform is the right tool: - **OnForm**: coach plans from $19.99/month or $199.99/year, with a free athlete plan connected to a coach. - **CoachNow**: PRO at $49.99/month or $499/year, built around coach–athlete spaces. - **V1 Golf / V1 Pro**: an established golf-instruction ecosystem with remote lessons. Many coaches use both: a platform for remote work, and a fast on-device tool on the tee. Prices checked September 25, 2026; see the [full comparison](https://swingdraw.app/posts/best-golf-swing-analyzer-apps-iphone) for sources. ## Coach questions Do my students need SwingDraw too? No. Export a marked frame (Save Photo) or an annotated clip (Save Video) and send it through Messages, email, or whatever app you already use. Students only need to watch the video. Is there a coach dashboard or student accounts? No. SwingDraw has no accounts, cloud storage, or messaging. If you run remote lessons or need a shared student library, a coaching platform like OnForm, CoachNow, or V1 is built for that. Can I use it on an iPad on the lesson tee? Yes. One purchase covers iPhone and iPad. The iPad screen gives side-by-side comparisons and drawings more room. How many students can I use it with? There is no student limit and no per-student fee. The library simply grows on your device, so tag each swing with the student’s name. **$14.99** Every tool included. iPhone and iPad, iOS 17.6+. SwingDraw tracks the head on your golf swing video and shows a Head Stability score on iPhone and iPad. Head movement # Is your head *really* still? Head movement is hard to feel and easy to argue about. SwingDraw tracks the head on your own swing video from address to impact, so you can see sway and dip instead of guessing. **$14.99**One time on the U.S. App Store. No subscription, in-app purchases, ads, or account.[Download on theApp Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swingdraw-golf-swing-analyzer/id6746954769?pt=126867818&ct=website_product&mt=8) ## How to check it 1. Film on a tripod, face-on for sway or down-the-line for movement toward the ball. 2. Open the swing and turn on body tracking. 3. Step from address to impact and watch the head point and the Head Stability label. 4. Draw a vertical line or circle at the head position at address for a fixed reference. 5. Compare with a swing you liked from the same camera position. Body tracking with “Head Stability 57” and “Spine 45°” labels, shown at the top of the backswing. ## What the Head Stability score means The score runs from 0 to 100. SwingDraw tracks a usable nose or ear landmark, smooths it, and adds up how far it travels between detected address and impact. That travel is scaled to the golfer’s estimated torso size: higher scores mean less movement. A score of 57 is not a percentage or a grade. The measurement lives in the 2D camera image. Camera movement, missed detections, and different camera positions all change it, so compare scores only between your own clips filmed the same way. The [overlay guide](https://swingdraw.app/posts/ai-golf-swing-analyzer-no-subscription) explains the calculation in detail. ## When not to trust it - A hat brim, hair, or low light hides the face landmarks. - The phone was handheld or bumped. - The golfer is small in the frame, so a few pixels matter a lot. In those cases, draw your own reference circle at address and step through the swing manually. ## Head movement questions What is a good Head Stability score? There is no universal target. The score summarizes how much the tracked head point moved from address to impact in this video. Use it to compare your own swings filmed from the same position, not to compare against other golfers. Should my head stay completely still? Not necessarily. Many good swings show some head movement. Ask your coach what movement is acceptable for your swing, then use the overlay to check it. Which camera angle is best for head movement? Face-on shows side-to-side sway; down-the-line shows the head moving toward or away from the ball. Keep the phone on a tripod: any camera movement looks like head movement. **$14.99** Every tool included. iPhone and iPad, iOS 17.6+. Swing tempo # Find your *rhythm* on video. Tempo is the timing between the parts of your swing. SwingDraw measures it from your own video as a backswing-to-downswing ratio, so you can see when you rush. **$14.99**One time on the U.S. App Store. No subscription, in-app purchases, ads, or account.[Download on theApp Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swingdraw-golf-swing-analyzer/id6746954769?pt=126867818&ct=website_product&mt=8) ## How the ratio is calculated SwingDraw detects three moments in the swing: **address**, the **top** of the backswing, and **impact**. The backswing is address to top; the downswing is top to impact. Divide one by the other and you get a ratio such as 2.3:1, shown with the swing’s notes, tags, and voice note. The notes panel showing “Tempo 2.3:1” with voice note and tag controls. ## Use it to compare yourself - Record five swings with a relaxed rhythm and five when you try to hit it hard. Compare the ratios. - Tag swings “good tempo” and star them, then compare a rushed swing side by side. - Record in slow motion. At 30 fps the downswing is only a handful of frames, so one frame changes the ratio noticeably. ## Limits Tempo depends on automatic phase detection. If address or the top is picked a frame or two differently, the ratio shifts. SwingDraw does not play a metronome or tempo tones, and it does not measure club speed. Treat the ratio as a way to compare your own swings filmed the same way. ## Tempo questions What is a good golf swing tempo ratio? Many instructors describe a backswing that takes roughly three times as long as the downswing (about 3:1), but golfers vary. Use your own ratio to spot changes, for example when you rush under pressure. How does SwingDraw measure tempo? It uses the detected address, top-of-backswing, and impact frames. Backswing time (address to top) divided by downswing time (top to impact) gives the ratio, shown to one decimal place. Why is no tempo shown for some swings? The ratio only appears when all three positions are detected. A cropped club, a very short clip, or heavy blur can prevent that. Does frame rate matter? Yes. The downswing is short, so a 30 fps video has few frames to measure. Record in slow motion (120 or 240 fps) for steadier numbers. **$14.99** Every tool included. iPhone and iPad, iOS 17.6+. The [recording guide](https://swingdraw.app/posts/how-to-record-golf-swing-video-iphone) shows the setup. - **A place to keep it.** The swing library holds thumbnails, dates, tags, favorites, and club filters, so the 7-iron from spring is easy to find in autumn. - **A clean way to share.** Save a marked frame or clip and send it to the coach with one question. ## Growth you can see Put last season’s swing next to this one and step both from address. Height, strength, and new equipment all change a junior’s swing; seeing the two side by side keeps the conversation with their coach concrete. ## Designed to stay out of the way - No ads, no in-app purchases, no upsell screens for a child to tap. - No account, profile, or chat. - App Store privacy label: “Data Not Collected”. - One $14.99 purchase, shareable with up to six family members. **A note on swing advice:** SwingDraw’s overlays and angles are visual aids, not instruction. Let a qualified coach decide what a junior should change, and use the video to support that conversation. ## Parent questions Is SwingDraw safe for kids to use? SwingDraw is rated 4+ on the App Store. It has no ads, no account, no chat or social features, and it collects no data. Videos stay on the device unless someone exports them. Can the whole family share one purchase? Yes. SwingDraw supports Family Sharing for up to six family members, so a parent and a junior golfer can each install it on their own device. Will it tell my child what to fix? No. SwingDraw shows the swing clearly; it does not grade it or prescribe drills. That is intentional for juniors: bring the marked clip to their coach rather than letting an app give them swing thoughts. Can I compare this season to last season? Yes. Keep swings in the library, tag them by club and date, and open any two side by side. Film from the same angle each time so the comparison is fair. **$14.99** Every tool included. iPhone and iPad, iOS 17.6+. No subscription. Product guide · Updated September 20, 2026 # What AI swing tracking shows—and what to check yourself. By [David Balderston](https://swingdraw.app/about), developer of SwingDraw. SwingDraw uses automatic tracking to add visual references to your golf video. You still choose the checkpoint, check the overlay, and decide what to discuss or practice. The tools are included in a one-time purchase. **SwingDraw for iPhone and iPad**$14.99 once on the U.S. App Store. No subscription, in-app purchases, or ads. [Open the full screenshot](https://swingdraw.app/assets/app/body-male-840.webp). ## What the tracking values mean ### Head Stability: a movement score from 0 to 100 Higher means less accumulated movement of the tracked head point in the video image. The tracker selects a usable nose or ear landmark, smooths its position, and adds accepted movement between analyzed frames from detected address up to impact. The score updates through that interval and holds after impact. It measures accumulated travel, not simply the distance from the starting position. The movement is scaled to the golfer’s estimated torso size. The score is 100 minus 200 times that movement-to-torso ratio, rounded and limited to 0–100. For a calculation example, movement equal to one quarter of the estimated torso size produces 50. **A score of 57 is not 57% accuracy or a grade for your swing.** Camera movement, tracking gaps, detected phase timing, and the torso estimate affect it. If torso landmarks are unavailable, the calculation uses a fallback size, so avoid comparing that score across clips. ### Spine angle: a line measured against vertical The overlay joins the midpoint of the detected hips to the midpoint of the detected shoulders and reports its angle from vertical in the camera image, rounded to whole degrees. The visible label shows the angle’s magnitude. “Spine 45°” therefore describes an image-plane reference; it does not establish a correct posture or measure the spine in three dimensions. ### Missing or unreliable points Frames without a usable head point are skipped, and large tracking jumps are filtered. Missing shoulder or hip points can prevent angle calculation. A smooth trace or high score does not prove that every detection was correct. Compare the overlay with the unmarked video before using it to judge a change. ## A simple check before trusting an overlay 1. **Watch the unmarked clip first.** Make sure you can see the movement you want to review. 2. **Enable one tracking layer.** Start with the body or club instead of filling the frame with every tool. 3. **Step through the checkpoint.** Look at the actual body or club as well as the tracked points. 4. **Set aside mismatched tracking.** If a point drifts away from its subject, use the original video and a manual reference for that section. 5. **Keep a note about uncertainty.** A clear question is more useful than treating every label as a diagnosis. ## When the recording needs work Motion blur, an obscured club, cropped limbs, and an unsteady camera can make the result harder to review. Record a short test in good light with the golfer and club fully visible. The [recording guide](https://swingdraw.app/posts/how-to-record-golf-swing-video-iphone) explains repeatable positioning; the [path guide](https://swingdraw.app/posts/golf-swing-path-analyzer-iphone) covers trace problems. ## What SwingDraw does not claim to do These tools do not measure ball flight or provide an automatic coaching diagnosis. A single view does not establish three-dimensional mechanics. Practical guide # Golf swing analyzer apps: local review or online coaching? By [David Balderston](https://davidb.app/) · Updated October 10, 2026 For private golf video review without a subscription, **SwingDraw costs $14.99 once** and includes drawing, frame stepping, body and swing-path overlays, and two-clip comparison. For a coach-managed cloud library, online lessons, or a different analysis workflow, consider V1 Golf, Onform, or CoachNow instead. Written by David Balderston, SwingDraw’s developer. This guide compares four documented workflows; it is not an independent test of swing accuracy or a ranking of every golf app. Publisher sources and U.S. prices were checked on October 10, 2026. ## Four different ways to review a swing Workflow and purchase comparison | App | Best fit for the workflow | Purchase model | Important distinction | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | SwingDraw | Review, annotate, and compare your own or a student’s clips on iPhone/iPad | $14.99 once; all features included | Local library; no remote coaching service or launch-monitor measurements | | V1 Golf | Golf models, online instruction, coach communication, and cloud-saved sessions | Free download; Golf+ listed at $9.99/month or $79.99/year; advanced plans separate | Current FAQ places drawing, comparison, and overlay in paid Golf+; skeletal and ball tracking in Advanced V1sion | | Onform | Coach-athlete messaging, organized video feedback, and plan-dependent capture/measurement integrations | Athlete Standard $9.99/month or $99.99/year; coach plans from $19.99/month | Connected-athlete access and coach subscriptions differ; feature availability depends on plan | | CoachNow Analyze | Video analysis with a small cloud collaboration workspace | $9.99/month or $59/year | Includes five Spaces/Groups and a 250-media allowance; broader coaching plans are separate | Sources: [SwingDraw on Apple](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id6746954769), [V1 Golf on Apple](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id349715369), [V1’s current feature FAQ](https://help.v1sports.com/en/articles/6244883-faqs-for-using-v1-golf), [Onform pricing and feature matrix](https://onform.com/pricing/), and [CoachNow pricing](https://coachnow.com/pricing). Trial eligibility, taxes, promotions, and storefront prices can differ. Read the purchase screen and plan details before subscribing. ## Choose SwingDraw for a local lesson or self-review SwingDraw is useful when your question is visual: where was the club at the top, how did the head move in the camera view, or what changed between two swings? Record or import footage, step to a checkpoint, add a line or angle, and compare another clip. Notes, tags, favorites, and annotated exports help retain the context of the session. Your library stays on device unless you export or share. A student can watch a normal exported video without purchasing the app. SwingDraw does not provide an instructor marketplace, team cloud accounts, cross-device cloud sync, automatic fault diagnosis, or ball-flight measurements. A 2D angle and a tracking overlay are visual references, rather than calibrated 3D measurements. See the [coach workflow](https://swingdraw.app/golf-coach-video-analysis-app) and [filming checklist](https://swingdraw.app/coach-filming-checklist/). ## Choose V1 Golf for its instruction ecosystem V1 Golf combines personal swing review with model swings, coach communication, and online instruction. Its current FAQ distinguishes free recording/import and frame-by-frame playback from **paid drawing, comparison, and overlay**. Advanced V1sion adds skeletal and ball tracking. Choose the plan for the tools you need; a free download does not mean every analysis tool is free. If your existing coach already uses V1, staying in that workflow may be more convenient than exchanging files separately. This guide does not compare the quality of individual coaches or claim that an automated overlay diagnoses a swing. ## Choose Onform for a coaching relationship Onform’s plans distinguish athletes from coaches. Messaging, shared video, and coaching libraries are central to the workflow. Its published matrix also lists plan-dependent 2D/3D analysis and external radar integrations. A connected athlete’s free access is different from purchasing an independent athlete or coach plan. If you need a shared, ongoing feedback relationship, compare the relevant coach plan, athlete access, and storage limits. If you need measured speed, check the supported hardware and plan rather than assuming a phone video alone provides that measurement. ## Choose CoachNow for a shared workspace CoachNow Analyze combines video review with a limited set of Spaces/Groups and a media allowance. Its larger coaching plans serve a different job: organizing ongoing communication and content across athletes. Check the number of people, media capacity, and collaboration tools you actually need before comparing its price with a local-only app. ## What if you want automated diagnosis or 3D analysis? Those are different buying questions from drawing on a video. Investigate specialist products and their current feature requirements rather than choosing purely on a “swing analyzer” label. Ask what is measured, whether the result is 2D or 3D, how it is validated, and whether it needs a particular camera view or external hardware. Do not treat an overlay, score, or AI suggestion as a substitute for an instructor’s interpretation. ## A five-minute comparison you can repeat 1. Film one well-lit swing with the full golfer and club in view, then retain the original file. 2. Try importing that same clip into each candidate. Note whether the workflow needs an account, an upload, or a paid plan. 3. Step to the same checkpoint. Test the drawing and comparison tools you will actually use. 4. Export a short annotated clip and check that the recipient can watch it. 5. Record the app version, device, plan, and any limitation you hit. Repeat with the camera angle you normally use. Use [SwingDraw’s getting-started guide](https://swingdraw.app/getting-started/) to try its workflow. The [Coach’s Eye alternatives guide](https://swingdraw.app/coachs-eye-alternative-golf) covers replacement tasks, and [current app facts](https://swingdraw.app/facts) list SwingDraw’s requirements and limits. ## Is there a free golf video analyzer? V1 Golf offers free recording, importing, and frame-by-frame review, while its current FAQ assigns drawing and comparison to paid Golf+. Other products may offer trials or connected-athlete access. Verify the specific tool you need, rather than equating “free download” with free use of every feature. Hands-on guide • Updated September 20, 2026 # How to draw lines on golf swing video on iPhone. By [David Balderston](https://swingdraw.app/about), developer of SwingDraw. The useful question is not how many lines an app can draw. It is whether one reference makes the movement you are practicing easier to see on the right frame. **SwingDraw for iPhone and iPad**$14.99 once on the U.S. App Store. No subscription, in-app purchases, or ads. [Download on theApp Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swingdraw-golf-swing-analyzer/id6746954769?pt=126867818&ct=website_guides&mt=8) **Try one checkpoint:** pause at setup, mark a head-position reference, then step through the movement. Keep the original frame in mind: the line describes the camera view, not a universal ideal position. Export a marked frame with the question you want to revisit. **Written and tested by David Balderston, the developer of SwingDraw.** The screenshots below show the current app. This guide is based on the workflow built into the product, not a generic summary of golf video analysis. ## Draw and export with the actual controls 1. Open the saved swing in **Library**. Pause playback and use the frame arrows to find the checkpoint. 2. Select **Line** and drag between the two points you want to connect. Use **Circle** when an area is clearer than a straight reference. 3. Select **Move** to adjust an existing mark. Use its edit handles to reposition the reference; **Undo** reverses the last drawing action and **Clear** removes the marks. 4. Step through nearby moments and check what changes relative to the reference. A manual line is a mark you placed, not an automatically tracked body part. 5. Choose **Save Photo** for the current annotated frame or **Save Video** for a clip with visible drawings and overlays. Inspect the exported result before sending it. For the full handoff, follow the [guide to sharing a swing and a clear question](https://swingdraw.app/posts/send-golf-swing-video-to-coach). ## Make the comparison useful 1. **Record from a repeatable angle.** Use down-the-line or face-on framing and keep the phone still. A line cannot correct a camera angle that changed between swings. 2. **Move to the frame that answers your question.** Step through setup, takeaway, top, transition, impact, and finish instead of drawing while the clip is still moving. 3. **Draw one useful reference.** Shaft plane, posture, head position, hand path, shoulder tilt, or hip line is enough for one review. 4. **Keep the reason with the clip.** Add the club, drill, tag, or note that explains why the line matters. 5. **Compare the same checkpoint later.** Match camera angle, club, and swing phase before deciding whether the movement changed. Real SwingDraw screen: movable line and angle tools over the swing frame. Use one reference tied to the change you are practicing. ## Which line should you draw? ### Shaft plane On a down-the-line clip, place a reference along the shaft at setup or through a checkpoint your coach uses. Compare that same frame later. The line is a reference, not proof that one universal plane fits every golfer. ### Posture or spine angle Use a face-on or down-the-line frame with the entire body visible. Mark the setup position, then inspect whether the relationship changes through the part of the swing you are working on. ### Head position A circle or short reference around the head can make large movement easier to notice. SwingDraw also includes a head-stability view, shown below, when you want a visual trace instead of manually redrawing the marker. Head-stability review on a real swing clip. Swing-path review gives movement context beyond a single static line. ## Three mistakes that make the lines misleading - **Changing the camera position.** A phone moved several inches can make the shaft, hands, or body appear to cross a different reference. - **Comparing different phases.** Match the same swing checkpoint before comparing positions. - **Covering the screen in marks.** More annotations do not create more understanding. Pick the line connected to the drill, lesson, or ball-flight pattern. **What SwingDraw does and does not do:** it gives you video, frame controls, drawing tools, visual tracking, comparisons, notes, and exports. It does not diagnose a swing fault or replace a qualified coach. ## Use the line to test a change Save the marked clip, then record another swing from the same view. Put the two clips into the comparison workflow and inspect one matched checkpoint. That turns the annotation into a repeatable practice test instead of a one-time screenshot. See the real SwingDraw workflow. Hands-on guide • Updated September 20, 2026 # Compare two golf swings without fooling yourself. By [David Balderston](https://swingdraw.app/about), developer of SwingDraw. A side-by-side view is only useful when the camera angle, club, swing phase, and question are close enough to compare. Here is the workflow SwingDraw is designed around. **SwingDraw for iPhone and iPad**$14.99 once on the U.S. App Store. No subscription, in-app purchases, or ads. [Download on theApp Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swingdraw-golf-swing-analyzer/id6746954769?pt=126867818&ct=website_guides&mt=8) **Written and tested by David Balderston, the developer of SwingDraw.** This page uses a current in-app comparison screen and explains the constraints that make the result meaningful. Real SwingDraw comparison screen: two saved swings reviewed together with playback and practice context available. ## Open two clips and understand synchronization 1. In **Library**, press and hold a saved swing and choose **Compare**. 2. Select the other panel and choose the second saved swing from Library. 3. Use the shared playback control, timeline, and frame arrows to review the pair. Comparison speed choices are **0.25×, 0.5×, 1×, and 2×**. 4. Check the visible movement in both clips before interpreting the overlays. Use the same club and camera position where possible. The shared timeline uses detected address as each clip’s starting reference, then advances both by the same elapsed time. It does not stretch two different tempos so every swing phase matches. If one swing reaches the top or impact sooner, that difference can remain visible. Do not assume that two frames displayed together show the same phase; inspect each checkpoint before comparing positions. ## Control the four variables first | Variable | Keep consistent | What goes wrong otherwise | | --- | --- | --- | | Camera view | Down-the-line with down-the-line, or face-on with face-on | Perspective creates a false position change | | Camera height and distance | Similar lens height, distance, and framing | Body and shaft lines appear to shift | | Club | Compare the same club when possible | Setup and swing shape can differ naturally | | Swing phase | Match setup, top, impact, or another exact checkpoint | Two different moments look like a technical change | ## A repeatable before-and-after test 1. **Name one change.** For example, keep the head steadier through impact or change the takeaway path. 2. **Choose the control clip.** Use a clear earlier swing with known club, angle, and practice context. 3. **Record the test clip from the same setup.** Repeat the phone placement before hitting the next ball. 4. **Align the checkpoint.** Check that both frames show the phase you intend to compare; synchronized time alone does not guarantee this. 5. **Draw only the related reference.** Use the same line, circle, or angle on both sides. 6. **Keep the result.** Save a note about the drill and ball flight, not just whether the frame looked better. ## A comparison to keep—and one to repeat ### Useful comparison Two 7-iron clips from the same tripod position, both paused at the top. Draw the same reference on each and note the drill you were trying. ### Record again One clip is face-on and the other is down-the-line. The head appears farther from a line, but the viewpoint changed too. Record from the original position before judging progress. ## Compare movement, not screenshots alone A still frame can hide how the golfer arrived there. Step backward and forward around the checkpoint. SwingDraw includes frame controls, drawing tools, head-stability and swing-path views, plus notes and tags so a comparison can retain the context of the practice session. Use a movement view when the question is not answered by one still frame. Keep club, drill, note, favorite, and tempo context with the swing. ## When SwingDraw is the right kind of comparison app SwingDraw is built for golfers who want to own the review workflow on iPhone or iPad: record or import clips, mark frames, compare attempts, keep practice context, and export results. It costs $14.99 once in the U.S. App Store and has no subscription, ads, or in-app purchases. It is not a coach marketplace, a remote-lesson platform, or an automated diagnosis. If you need instruction, use the comparison to ask a coach a precise question rather than treating any single line as a universal swing rule. Includes a real product screenshot. Product guide · Updated September 20, 2026 # How to review a clubhead path on iPhone. By [David Balderston](https://swingdraw.app/about), developer of SwingDraw. SwingDraw’s Clubhead Path overlay helps you follow club movement through a recorded swing. Use it alongside the original video: a trace on a two-dimensional image does not measure the club’s three-dimensional delivery or predict ball flight. **SwingDraw for iPhone and iPad**$14.99 once on the U.S. App Store. No subscription, in-app purchases, or ads. [Download on theApp Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swingdraw-golf-swing-analyzer/id6746954769?pt=126867818&ct=website_guides&mt=8) ## Start with the club visible Open a clear swing from Library. A steady down-the-line recording is useful for examining how club movement appears from behind the golfer. Keep the whole club in frame, including the top and finish. If you want to compare sessions, repeat the camera position and use the same club. See the [camera setup guide](https://swingdraw.app/posts/how-to-record-golf-swing-video-iphone) before drawing conclusions from a different viewpoint. ## Review the trace in four steps 1. **Find one phase.** Pause at the takeaway, top, or delivery rather than trying to judge the entire swing at once. 2. **Turn on Clubhead Path.** Inspect the trace together with the visible club, not as an isolated curve. 3. **Step through nearby frames.** Check whether the trace follows the clubhead as the video advances. A clean-looking curve is not proof that every point was tracked correctly. 4. **Keep the useful evidence.** Use Save Photo for a checkpoint or Save Video for movement. Review the export before sharing it. Published SwingDraw product screen. The colored trace is an overlay on the camera image; it is not a launch-monitor measurement. [Open the full screenshot](https://swingdraw.app/assets/app/path-male-840.webp). ## If the path looks wrong | What you see | What to check | What to do next | | --- | --- | --- | | A gap in the trace | Is the club obscured or outside the frame? | Inspect the original frames. Do not interpret a missing trace as a missing movement. | | A sudden jump | Is the club blurred or difficult to distinguish from the background? | Check frames before and after the jump. Use manual review where the overlay does not match. | | A different curve in a second clip | Did the camera position, framing, club, or swing phase change? | Match those conditions before treating the difference as progress. | ## Path tracking and plane lines answer different questions A path trace follows movement over time. A plane line is a reference you draw on a frame. Use [manual shaft-plane lines](https://swingdraw.app/posts/golf-swing-plane-analyzer-iphone) when you need a fixed checkpoint, and [side-by-side comparison](https://swingdraw.app/posts/golf-swing-comparison-app-iphone) when you want to inspect two attempts. ## What this cannot tell you The picture changes with the camera. A trace does not establish an exact club-path angle at impact, face angle, swing speed, or ball spin. Save observed ball flight as a separate note and use qualified instruction when you need a diagnosis. The path tools are included in SwingDraw’s [one-time purchase](https://swingdraw.app/pricing), alongside drawing, comparison, and exports. ## Keep reading [Camera setup ### How to record a golf swing with iPhone Tripod height, distance, and down-the-line versus face-on framing for comparisons you can trust.](https://swingdraw.app/posts/how-to-record-golf-swing-video-iphone)[Workflow ### How to analyze your golf swing video A six-step review: one question, the right frame, one mark, and a note you can act on.](https://swingdraw.app/posts/how-to-analyze-golf-swing-video-iphone)[Drawing ### Draw lines on golf swing video Shaft plane, posture, and head references with the actual Line, Circle, and Move controls.](https://swingdraw.app/posts/draw-lines-on-golf-swing-video-iphone) SwingDraw for iPhone & iPad ## Your next range session, *on the record.* Record or import a swing, mark the frame that matters, and compare it with last week. Learn what camera perspective can and cannot show. Product guide · Updated September 20, 2026 # Draw a shaft-plane reference you can compare. By [David Balderston](https://swingdraw.app/about), developer of SwingDraw. A plane line is a visual reference on your video. In SwingDraw, draw it on a clear frame, keep the camera setup consistent, and compare the same checkpoint on another swing. **SwingDraw for iPhone and iPad**$14.99 once on the U.S. App Store. [Download on theApp Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swingdraw-golf-swing-analyzer/id6746954769?pt=126867818&ct=website_guides&mt=8) ## Pick the reference before drawing For a shaft reference, use a frame where you can see the shaft and grip clearly. Start with a down-the-line clip, keep the phone level, and choose the checkpoint you are working on. If your instructor specified a camera position or reference, use that consistently. ## Draw and adjust the line 1. **Open the swing from Library.** Pause on your chosen frame and use the frame arrows to refine the moment. 2. **Choose Line.** Place the reference along the visible shaft or the specific alignment you want to study. 3. **Fine-tune the endpoints.** Move the annotation if it does not sit on the intended reference. Avoid drawing extra lines that obscure the club. 4. **Review nearby frames.** Treat the line as a reference, not a rule that the shaft must follow throughout the whole swing. 5. **Save the checkpoint.** Export a marked image and record the camera view, club, and question. Published product screen showing manual annotations and visible angle labels. Measurements describe positions in the video image. [Open the full screenshot](https://swingdraw.app/assets/app/angles-male-840.webp). ## Keep these conditions the same - Camera view, lens height, and distance from the golfer. - Phone orientation and framing. - Club and the swing phase being compared. - The reference used for both lines. If one recording was made near ground level and another near hand height, an apparent change in shaft angle may come from perspective. Repeat the recording setup before interpreting it as a swing change. ## Use the right tool for the question [Drawing tools](https://swingdraw.app/posts/draw-lines-on-golf-swing-video-iphone) provide a fixed reference. [Clubhead Path](https://swingdraw.app/posts/golf-swing-path-analyzer-iphone) shows a movement overlay across frames. [Comparison](https://swingdraw.app/posts/golf-swing-comparison-app-iphone) helps inspect the same moment in two clips. Keep swing videos, notes, tags, tempo context, favorites, and comparisons together. Article • June 21, 2026 # A golf swing practice journal should remember more than the video. By [David Balderston](https://swingdraw.app/about), developer of SwingDraw. Most golfers already record swing videos. The hard part is finding the useful clips later and remembering what the drill, club, or lesson focus was. That is where a lightweight practice journal helps. **SwingDraw for iPhone and iPad**$14.99 once on the U.S. App Store. No subscription, in-app purchases, or ads. [Download on theApp Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swingdraw-golf-swing-analyzer/id6746954769?pt=126867818&ct=website_guides&mt=8) ## The camera roll is a weak practice log After a few range sessions, the camera roll becomes a pile of almost-identical swings. You may remember the feel for a day or two, but a week later it is hard to tell which clip was driver, which one was the new grip, and which one was the before version. SwingDraw turns swing video into something closer to a practice journal. A saved swing can include the video, drawings, comparison context, club tag, favorite status, tempo note, and a quick voice thought from the session. ## What to track after each range session 1. **The drill.** Write down the drill or feel while it is fresh. 2. **The club.** A driver swing and a wedge swing should not live as anonymous clips. 3. **The checkpoint.** Mark the setup line, swing plane, head position, or impact frame you care about. 4. **The useful reps.** Favorite the swings that explain the session, not every swing you recorded. 5. **The next question.** Leave a note for what you want to check next time. ## Small notes beat perfect notes A swing journal does not need to become homework. A short note like "driver, trying to keep takeaway outside hands" is enough to make the clip useful later. Voice notes are helpful when typing on the range is annoying. ## Why this matters for improvement Golf changes tend to be slow and visual. A practice journal lets you compare the current swing against the older version, see whether the checkpoint moved, and avoid restarting from memory every session. SwingDraw keeps that workflow local and simple: one-time purchase, no subscription, no ad model, and no need to turn self-review into a full coaching platform. Article • Updated August 24, 2026 # How to analyze your golf swing video on iPhone. By [David Balderston](https://swingdraw.app/about), developer of SwingDraw. A good swing video is only useful if you can read it. This guide is for golfers searching for an iPhone workflow that is simple enough to use on the range but detailed enough for serious self-review. **SwingDraw for iPhone and iPad**$14.99 once on the U.S. App Store. No subscription, in-app purchases, or ads. [Download on theApp Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swingdraw-golf-swing-analyzer/id6746954769?pt=126867818&ct=website_guides&mt=8) ## 1. Start with a usable video Film from a stable angle with the golfer fully in frame. Down-the-line and face-on are the two most useful views. Keep camera height, distance, and aim consistent when you want to compare sessions. If you already shot the clip in the camera app, import it; otherwise, record directly inside the analysis app. The [iPhone camera setup guide](how-to-record-golf-swing-video-iphone) shows both views in detail. ## 2. Slow the swing down immediately The first mistake most golfers make is watching the video at full speed and deciding too early what is wrong. Start by slowing the video down or moving frame by frame. The issue you care about may only appear for a fraction of a second. ## 3. Mark what you think you see This is where visual annotation becomes useful. Draw a line for posture, club path, shoulder tilt, hip depth, or head position. If you cannot mark it clearly on the frame, you probably do not understand it clearly yet either. ## 4. Use body tracking carefully AI body tracking is valuable when it helps you see positions more clearly, especially through transition and impact. It should support the review, not replace judgment. The point is to make motion easier to interpret, not to pretend every number is automatically meaningful. ## 5. Compare one swing to another Improvement is hard to feel in the moment. Comparison makes change visible. Save the swing, tag it by club, and compare it to an earlier version later. That creates a simple feedback loop instead of relying on memory. ## 6. Export the exact frames that matter Export the annotated clip or still frame that shows the checkpoint clearly. That is better than keeping an unmarked video in the camera roll and trying to remember what mattered later. ## What makes an iPhone golf swing analysis app actually useful? The short answer is workflow. A useful tool should let you import or record video, move frame by frame, draw directly on frames, use AI where it helps, organize swings by club, and export clips without locking those basics behind subscriptions or add-ons. That is the lane SwingDraw is designed for: golfers who want a mobile analysis workflow that is visual, practical, and not buried under recurring payments. If another person needs to review the result, export only the frame or clip that supports your question. The [coach-sharing workflow](send-golf-swing-video-to-coach) explains what context to include so they do not have to guess what changed. Camera setup guide • Updated September 1, 2026 # How to record a golf swing with an iPhone camera. By [David Balderston](https://swingdraw.app/about), developer of SwingDraw. Good analysis starts before you press record. A stable, repeatable camera position matters more than adding another line after the angle has changed. **SwingDraw for iPhone and iPad**$14.99 once on the U.S. App Store. No subscription, in-app purchases, or ads. [Download on theApp Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swingdraw-golf-swing-analyzer/id6746954769?pt=126867818&ct=website_guides&mt=8) **Written and field-tested by David Balderston, the developer of SwingDraw.** The goal is repeatability, not a single perfect-looking clip. ## Best iPhone placement in one sentence Stabilize the rear camera near the golfer's hand height at address, move far enough away to keep the entire body and club in frame, and record every comparison from the same marked position. ## Quick setup 1. **Use the rear camera.** It generally gives the best image quality. Clean the lens before recording. 2. **Stabilize the phone.** Use a tripod, bag mount, or secure support. Do not ask someone to follow the club with a handheld phone. 3. **Place the lens near hand height at address.** That gives a useful starting perspective for common down-the-line and face-on reviews. 4. **Move far enough back to keep the whole club visible.** Leave room above the hands at the top and around the finish. 5. **Record the same view again.** Mark the tripod and hitting positions if you plan to compare sessions. **Stable iPhone**Rear camera, lens near hand height, no handheld panning **Full golfer and club**Leave room for the ball, backswing, and finish ## Down-the-line camera position Use down-the-line when the question involves shaft plane, hand path, takeaway direction, posture, or how movement looks relative to the target line. Keep the phone on a consistent line behind the golfer rather than moving it casually between the feet and the ball. There is no single camera line that makes every coaching method agree. If a coach gave you a specific setup, repeat that setup. The important point for self-comparison is that today and next week use the same perspective. ## Face-on camera position Use face-on when the question involves lateral movement, width, ball position, head movement, or the relationship between the golfer and the target. Keep the lens perpendicular to the golfer and avoid standing far toward the target or behind the trail side. ## Frame rate, slow motion, and light - **Prefer good light over extreme slow motion.** Higher frame rates need more light. A dark, noisy clip can be harder to inspect than a clear standard-speed clip. - **Avoid digital zoom.** Move the tripod when practical and keep the entire swing visible. - **Keep the phone level.** A tilted horizon makes body and shaft references harder to compare. - **Record a short test first.** Confirm that the clubhead stays in frame at the top and finish. A consistent full-body recording gives the app enough visible context for frame review and movement overlays. ## Make the next session comparable Save a note with the club, view, drill, and tripod position. On the next session, repeat the physical setup before comparing clips. Camera consistency will not make a swing better, but it keeps the video from inventing a difference that was not there. Why SwingDraw uses a one-time purchase, and when a subscription app is worth it. Article • March 16, 2026 # Why a no-subscription golf swing app matters. By [David Balderston](https://swingdraw.app/about), developer of SwingDraw. A lot of sports apps try to turn every useful workflow into a recurring payment. SwingDraw deliberately does not. If you are searching for a golf swing analysis app with no subscription and no in-app purchases, this is the reasoning behind that choice. **SwingDraw for iPhone and iPad**$14.99 once on the U.S. App Store. No subscription, in-app purchases, or ads. [Download on theApp Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swingdraw-golf-swing-analyzer/id6746954769?pt=126867818&ct=website_guides&mt=8) **Golf practice is not evenly distributed.** Some golfers grind for six weeks before a tournament. Others barely touch their swing videos for a month. A subscription model assumes constant usage, but swing work often happens in cycles. That makes one-time software a better fit for a lot of players. ## No subscription changes the buyer relationship SwingDraw uses a one-time purchase for its video-review tools. You can return to your saved swings between practice sessions without renewing a SwingDraw membership. Choose a subscription product when its ongoing services are useful to you; our focus is personal video review. ## No in-app purchases removes the second layer of friction “No subscription” sounds good, but many apps still keep useful parts behind in-app purchases. That can mean locked exports, extra analysis tools, or artificial caps on library size. SwingDraw is positioned against that pattern too. The point is to give golfers a complete swing analysis tool, not a storefront disguised as one. ## This matters even more in golf Golfers already pay for range balls, lessons, rounds, launch monitor sessions, and equipment. A swing analysis app should reduce friction, not add one more repeating line item. That is especially true for players who want a simple visual review tool they can use on the range and then forget about until they need it again. ## What a one-time-purchase app still needs to do well No subscription only matters if the app is actually capable. That means the tool still has to handle the real jobs golfers care about: - Importing existing swing videos - Recording inside the app - Drawing directly on frames - Reviewing in slow motion and frame by frame - Using AI or tracking tools where they help - Saving and organizing swings over time - Exporting annotated clips for your own practice notes That is the framing for SwingDraw. The pricing model is part of the value proposition, but it only works because the feature set is already built around actual practice sessions. ## What does the purchase include? The purchase includes recording and importing, drawing, tracking overlays, clip comparison, practice notes, and annotated exports. There is no separate AI subscription or export purchase. Article • Updated August 24, 2026 # How to send your coach a useful golf swing video. By [David Balderston](https://swingdraw.app/about), developer of SwingDraw. A raw swing clip is better than nothing, but it usually leaves the coach guessing what you were trying to change. A marked-up clip with one clear checkpoint, club context, and a short note is easier to review. **SwingDraw for iPhone and iPad**$14.99 once on the U.S. App Store. No subscription, in-app purchases, or ads. [Download on theApp Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swingdraw-golf-swing-analyzer/id6746954769?pt=126867818&ct=website_guides&mt=8) ## Start with the question Before you send a golf swing video to a coach, decide what you want answered. It might be "am I getting too far inside on the takeaway?" or "did the setup change from last lesson stick?" One question keeps the feedback specific. SwingDraw helps because the clip can carry that question visually. You can draw a swing plane line, mark head movement, compare against another rep, tag the club, and keep a note with the clip instead of sending a mystery video from the camera roll. ## A cleaner coach-share workflow 1. **Choose one swing.** Pick the clip that shows the pattern, not the one that simply looks best. 2. **Mark the checkpoint.** Add the line, circle, or angle your coach should inspect first. 3. **Add context.** Save the club, drill, feel, tempo note, or a quick voice note while you still remember it. 4. **Compare only when it helps.** A side-by-side clip is useful when the old and new swing were filmed from the same angle. 5. **Export the evidence.** Share the marked-up image or video so the coach sees the same frame you are asking about. ## What to avoid Do not send ten swings and ask "what do you think?" unless the coach specifically wants the full batch. It is hard to review, and it blurs the lesson into general impressions. One marked-up clip with a short note usually gets better feedback. Also avoid mixing camera angles in the same question. Down-the-line and face-on views show different problems. If you want to compare two swings, keep the view, distance, and framing as close as you can. ## Where SwingDraw fits SwingDraw is not a coach marketplace and it does not promise an automatic lesson. It is a golfer-owned review tool: record or import video, mark up the frame, review swing path and body position, keep practice notes, and export what is worth discussing. No subscription. Article • May 31, 2026 # Slow motion golf swing analyzer on iPhone. By [David Balderston](https://swingdraw.app/about), developer of SwingDraw. Most swing changes happen too quickly to judge at full speed. SwingDraw gives golfers a slower review workflow: move frame by frame, draw the checkpoint, compare clips, and keep notes from the range session. **SwingDraw for iPhone and iPad**$14.99 once on the U.S. App Store. No subscription, in-app purchases, or ads. [Download on theApp Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swingdraw-golf-swing-analyzer/id6746954769?pt=126867818&ct=website_guides&mt=8) ## Why slow motion review matters A golf swing can hide the important detail in a fraction of a second. Setup, takeaway, transition, impact, and finish all deserve different frames. Slow motion and frame-by-frame controls help you inspect the movement instead of guessing from one full-speed replay. That does not mean every swing needs a complicated diagnosis. The best review is focused: one camera angle, one checkpoint, one comparison, and a short note about what you were practicing. ## Playback speed and frame arrows Open a saved clip from **Library**. In the single-video editor, the speed slider runs from **0.1× to 2× in 0.1× steps**; 1× is normal playback. Pause and use the previous/next frame arrows for a closer look at a checkpoint. The separate comparison view offers 0.25×, 0.5×, 1×, and 2×. The editor seeks by an estimated frame interval, using the detected video rate when available and a 1/30-second fallback otherwise. The comparison arrows use 1/30-second steps. With imported high-frame-rate or already slowed footage, a step is therefore not a promise to visit every original camera frame. Playback speed is relative to the imported file’s timeline. ### When slowing the video does not help A slower replay cannot recover detail already lost to motion blur, a hidden club, or a poorly framed recording. If impact remains a blur, improve the light and [record another short test](https://swingdraw.app/posts/how-to-record-golf-swing-video-iphone). Use [a manual reference](https://swingdraw.app/posts/draw-lines-on-golf-swing-video-iphone#controls) only where the underlying frame is clear enough to interpret. ## A simple iPhone workflow 1. **Record or import the swing.** Use the range clip you already have, or record a new session in SwingDraw. 2. **Slow the clip down.** Step through the swing until the checkpoint is visible. 3. **Draw only what matters.** Mark shaft plane, head position, hand path, hip line, shoulder tilt, or another lesson checkpoint. 4. **Save the practice context.** Add tags, notes, club metadata, and favorites so the clip is useful later. 5. **Compare progress.** Put the clip next to an older swing or a later swing so the change is visible. ## What to look for frame by frame Use slow motion for specific questions: Did the head drift? Did the club move above or below the intended path? Did posture change through impact? Did the new drill change the takeaway? If the question is clear, the frame you need is usually easier to find. SwingDraw also supports AI body tracking, head stability, swing path review, angle measurements, and side-by-side comparison. Those tools are most useful when they support a visible question rather than replacing your judgment. ## No recurring swing-review bill SwingDraw is a one-time purchase with no subscription, no ads, and no in-app purchases. It is built for golfers who want a practical video review tool on iPhone and iPad, not a cloud coaching platform they have to keep paying for. The iPhone and iPad golf swing app to review video, draw swing path lines, compare clips, keep notes, and export. Article • Updated July 6, 2026 # SwingDraw is the Swing Draw golf app for visual swing review on iPhone. By [David Balderston](https://swingdraw.app/about), developer of SwingDraw. If you searched for Swing Draw, SwingDraw, or a golf swing path app, the short version is simple: SwingDraw helps you watch swing video closely, draw path lines on important frames, compare clips, save notes and tags, and export useful marked-up swings. **SwingDraw for iPhone and iPad**$14.99 once on the U.S. App Store. No subscription, in-app purchases, or ads. [Download on theApp Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swingdraw-golf-swing-analyzer/id6746954769?pt=126867818&ct=website_guides&mt=8) ## What SwingDraw does SwingDraw helps golfers make their own swing videos easier to inspect. You can record or import a clip, slow it down, draw checkpoints, review swing path and body position, save useful reps, and compare clips later. The app is intentionally built around practice evidence. It is not a coach marketplace, a social network, or a library of generic swing tips. It is for the moment when you want to look at your actual swing and remember what you were trying to change. ## Is it SwingDraw or Swing Draw? The app name is SwingDraw, written as one word. Some golfers search for it as Swing Draw because the core workflow is exactly that: open a swing video, draw useful reference lines, check the swing path you can see in the clip, and keep the marked-up result with enough context to review later. That drawing workflow is meant for self-review. SwingDraw can make the visual evidence clearer, but it does not claim to diagnose every fault or replace a qualified coach. ## If you mean swing path, not a draw shot To inspect the club path or mark a position in your swing, start with a clear recording: pause the clip, draw the path or plane line you want to check, compare another rep when helpful, and keep the marked-up swing with your notes. It will not tell you that you hit a draw or prescribe a ball-flight fix automatically. If your search was for a swing path analyzer, start with a down-the-line clip and mark only the checkpoints you can judge from that camera angle. SwingDraw works best when you use drawing tools to make one practice question visible, such as takeaway direction, shaft position, or where the club appears to travel through impact. ## When you just want to watch one swing again A common use is simple: film a range swing, open it in SwingDraw, scrub to the frame that matters, and mark what you want to check next time. That might be the takeaway line, shaft position, head movement, hip turn, or the path your club appears to take through the ball. Because the review stays tied to the original video, you are not relying on a generic label. You can keep the clip with your own note, compare it against another session, or send a marked-up export when a coach asks what you were seeing. ## How to use it after a range session Import the swing you want to inspect, slow it down, and draw only the references you actually need for that practice goal. A down-the-line clip might need a shaft or plane line. A face-on clip might need head movement, hip position, or impact checkpoints. The point is to keep the review tied to one real swing instead of turning practice into a generic checklist. ## A simple first review workflow Pick one swing and one question before you start drawing. For example, use a down-the-line clip to check whether the club appears outside or inside your intended takeaway line, or use a face-on clip to mark where your head and lead hip are at setup and impact. Add a short note about the drill or club, favorite the clip if it is useful, and compare it with the next practice session when you have a real before-and-after pair. This narrow workflow is why SwingDraw can be useful even when you already have a coach. The app gives you a marked-up clip you can revisit or export, while the coaching decision still comes from you and the person helping you. ## Common reasons people use it 1. **Draw reference lines.** Mark setup, swing plane, posture, head movement, shaft angle, and impact checkpoints. 2. **Watch the swing frame by frame.** Slow down a clip and stop on the exact position you want to review. 3. **Compare before and after.** Put two clips side by side when you are testing a lesson or drill. 4. **Keep practice notes.** Add club tags, tempo context, favorite status, and quick notes so old videos still make sense. 5. **Share clearer evidence.** Export a marked-up clip or frame when you want a coach or friend to see the same thing you see. ## Why it is a one-time purchase Golfers already pay for range balls, lessons, gear, and tee times. SwingDraw is priced as a focused tool, not a recurring lesson platform. There are no ads, no in-app purchases, and no subscription. ## Who it is best for SwingDraw is a good fit if you film practice sessions, work with a coach occasionally, test drills on your own, or want a cleaner way to compare swing changes. If you want automatic instruction or a live coach network, you may need a different product. ## Useful next guides If you are comparing features, start with the [golf swing video analysis guide](how-to-analyze-golf-swing-video-iphone). Printable checklist # A filming checklist for a useful golf swing review Keep the camera view consistent, capture the whole motion, choose one checkpoint, and share an annotated review. A printable checklist for golfers and coaches. 1. **Ask which view helps.** Choose the camera view with your coach or the person reviewing the swing. Frame the golfer and the club through the motion; a close crop can hide the position you want to inspect. 2. **Keep the camera steady.** Use a stable support and useful lighting. Keep people out of the practice area and place the camera where it will not interfere with a swing or another golfer. 3. **Make two clips comparable.** Keep camera position, height, distance, orientation, and zoom consistent between attempts. A different view can make a similar movement look different. 4. **Choose one question.** Name the checkpoint you want to review, such as address, the top of the backswing, or impact. A coach’s interpretation is more useful than treating every overlay as a diagnosis. 5. **Line up the same moment.** Step through both clips and compare the same point in the motion. Add one clear line, angle, or note. Camera perspective affects apparent angles, and overlays are visual references rather than precise 3D measurements. 6. **Send the context with the clip.** Export an annotated frame or video and include the checkpoint, camera view, and question. Get permission before sharing another person’s footage. Students can watch a normal exported video without buying the app. The app provides visual references for reviewing your footage.
